Eat That Frog!
I. Book Identity
The book I reviewed is Eat That Frog!: 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time by Brian Tracy. It is published by Berrett-Koehler Publishers and was first published in 2001. The book has around 145 pages. The genre of this book is self-help or personal development.
I chose this book because I often delay doing my assignments. As a university student, I want to manage my time better and become more productive. I think this book can help me improve my study habits.
II. Book Content in General
In general, this book talks about how to stop procrastinating and how to finish important tasks first. The word “frog” in this book means your most important and most difficult task. Brian Tracy says that if you do your hardest task first, your day will become easier and more productive.
The book gives 21 simple ways to manage time better. The writer explains that we need to set clear goals, make plans, and focus on important work. He also says that successful people always do their important tasks first. The main message of the book is that self-discipline is the key to success. If we control our time and focus on priorities, we can achieve more in our life.
III. Detailed Content of One Selected Chapter
In this section, I chose Chapter 14: "Put Pressure on Yourself." This chapter explains that we shouldn't always wait for others to motivate and encourage us to get started. We must be brave and push ourselves to work and take action. Successful people aren't those who always wait for orders, but rather those who are disciplined and fully aware of and take responsibility for their own success.
The main idea of this chapter is personal responsibility. We must be able to manage our own time, when it's time to work and when to stop. We shouldn't wait for others to motivate us to work because that will continue to cause us procrastinate and we Will never move forward and and get strated .
The author emphasizes that ordinary people procrastinate, while successful people act immediately. This chapter also reminds us of the importance of using time wisely. This chapter is very meaningful for us as students, because it teaches independence and discipline. We must initiate ourselves and act without waiting for instructions. The main concept of this chapter is self-discipline. Discipline is more important than talent.
IV. What I Learned from the Book
From this book, I learned that procrastination is a habit, but we can change it. We often delay tasks because they look difficult. Sometimes we feel afraid to start. But this book teaches that we must start first. After we start, the task becomes easier.
I also learned that time is very important. We cannot get back lost time. Every day we have 24 hours. We must use our time wisely. If we waste time on small and unimportant things, we will regret it later. But if we use our time well, we can reach our goals faster.
This book changed my way of thinking. Before reading this book, I liked to do easy tasks first. I avoided difficult tasks because I felt uncomfortable. Now I understand that finishing the hardest task first can make me feel proud and happy. It gives me more energy to continue my work.
As a university student and future English teacher, this book is very useful for me. In the future, I will have many responsibilities. I must prepare lesson plans, teach students, and check assignments. If I delay my work, I will feel stressed. This book teaches me to be more disciplined and organized.
I also learned new English words from this book, such as procrastination, goal, deadline, focus, and discipline. These words are useful for academic writing and daily conversation. Reading this book also helps me practice reading English texts and understand new ideas.
V. Conclusion
In conclusion, Eat That Frog! is a simple and helpful book about time management. The language is easy to understand, and the ideas are clear. The strength of this book is that it gives practical advice that we can use every day. The weakness is that some ideas are repeated in different chapters. However, the repetition helps readers remember the message. I recommend this book for university students, teachers, and anyone who wants to stop procrastinating. This book is short, but it gives important lessons for success in study and life.
